Faith, Healing and Reclaiming Our Voices
On 17 November, Bertha’s Legacy delivered a talk at the Women’s Day Conference at Hill City Church in Harare. Using our psychoeducation module, we explored what trauma is, how it affects our thoughts, emotions and behaviour, and why understanding its impact is an important part of healing.
Participants learned to recognise common trauma responses, identify coping mechanisms that may become harmful and explore healthier ways of managing difficult emotions. Honest sharing led to powerful moments of recognition, as some women realised that practices they had been taught to accept as normal could be abusive, including the belief that a wife cannot refuse sex within marriage.
The session created a supportive space for women to learn, reflect and begin reclaiming their voices.
